5th-6th century AD. A gold ring comprising a round-section hoop with bulbous collar, applied granules and beading to the shoulders, filigree rounded cage with beaded rim and granule finials, discoid plaque with granulated surface and central inset later ancient carnelian gemstone with scorpion intaglio. Cf. Chadour, A.B., Rings. 

The Alice and Louis Koch Collection, volume I, Leeds, 1994, item 486, for type. 8.98 grams, 34.15mm overall, 19.85mm internal diameter (approximate size British T 1/2, USA 10, Europe 22.33, Japan 19.84) (1 1/4").
