SPAIN 1699 8 ESCUDOS NGC 45 GOLD DOUBLOON TREASURE COIN Charles II RARE! This exact piece originally from a Christie’s auction almost 40 years ago (see photo’s)! This 1699 GOLD 8 ESCUDOS is one of ONLY 3 pieces Ever certified, and the other two are only Very Slightly higher, 53 & 55; however the DATE on t his piece is far superior to it’s counterparts. The Obverse shows the Shield without Portugal, encircled with the “Order of the Golden Fleece.” Assayer M; 26.83 grams. CROSS Side: Perfectly round and about 90%+ of the pie crust (indenticales), with an Extremely strong Strike on both the DATE and CROSS (as well as the Tressure)! The Color on this piece is very lustrous and bright and has 98% complete Legends! CROWN Side: Full and Complete CROWN as well as shield and even the Legends! CARLOS (CHARLES II) remember passed away in 1700 and died without heir, and passed his kingdom to Philip V (grand nephew); who was set become ruler of France which of course is what sparked the “Great War of the Succession,” which ran up through 1714. This side displays the denomination “VIII” vertically (unique die type). To the left of the Shield is both the Mint “S” (Seville) and the Assayer “M.” With the shield encircled with the “Order of the Golden Fleece.” A VERY RARE OPPORTUNITY!
