Peru 8 Escudos 1714/3 "Only 1 Known- 1715 Plate Fleet" NGC 62
PERU 1714/3 8 ESCUDOS NGC 62 (ONLY 1 KNOWN!) “1715 FLEET” GOLD COB DOUBLOON TREASURE COIN RARE – POP 1 ~ ONLY 1 KNOWN! Just got back from NGC, not only is this the “ONLY” 1714/3 or even 1714 period, ever to be Certified by NGC, it’s in MINT STATE NGC 62!!! This is a very important year of the FLEET run of dates and highly sought after / coveted. There are collectors that have been doing this for literally 20 or 30 years that have never owned (or even seen) a 1714/3 or 1714. This is definitely a RARE opportunity for all collectors and is being offered in the open market. This Onza has a very round planchet and strong devices / strike. Both the Obverse and Reverse has virtually no doubling (with small exception of the 1 in date), atypical. From the Pillars of Hercules to the Waves below the strike is clean and strong! Perhaps one of the most important features is that piece has a “Double Date” or Legend Date, which is clear and non doubled as well. You can clearly see the “3” under the “4.” Nice beading around the circumference as well as partial legends. The Reverse is mind boggling…. The CROSS is very thick and Bold (no breaks) and is almost perfectly centered. Each window in the castles are struck clearly and open and the Lions manes are even visible. The Legends on the Reverse is SO pleasing and virtually complete (95%). PHILIPUS V. DG.HISPANIRUM (Philip V by the Grace of God King of Spain). Especially when viewing the reverse the roundness of the planchet really stands out, almost Royal like. Perhaps an opportunity for such a special piece / date presents itself once or twice in a collecting lifetime!
