PERU 1700 4 ESCUDOS NGC 62 “1715 FLEET” ONLY 3KN! GOLD COB DOUBLOON TREASURE COIN
WOW!!! This gorgeous 1700 CHARLES II 4 Escudos is a member of a RARE club ~ ONLY 3 Ever Certified! The higher graded piece however is NOT “1715 FLEET” and sold in auction few years ago at $42,000 approx. This piece is FULL weight at 13.5g and is not only Mint State 62 but also designated from the “1715 PLATE FLEET!” Just an extraordinary Sunken Treasure piece with literally ZERO doubling and a perfect strike, from the Mint (L) (4e) (H-Hurtado) all the way down to the DATE of 1700!!! But perhaps even rarer that a strong strike is the FULL LUSTER after over 300 years on the Ocean Floor! The 4 Escudos are of course much RARER than the 8E’s (with only approx 14 pieces of ALL Dates up to 1715 that can be part of the FLEET), and this is from the CHARLES II REIGN! Which maybe there’s 4 or 5 pieces Total (for all dates 1696-1700) that’s Certified from that reign, but most are NOT from the Fleet or designated as such! This piece really is part of an elite and elusive club. The Reverse details are also Superb! The Cross is non doubled and is obviously of a larger variety (perhaps an 8E Cross variety) and the Castles and Lions as well are oversized for a 4E, but just look at the details of the Lions and Castles, from the Windows in the Castles to the Lion’s mane, every detail is almost perfect!
