Pirate Gold Coins Treasures of the Jurassic is please to exclusively offer this piece online, Icthyosaur Fossil in absolutely prestine condition! Icthyosaur is greek for 'fish lizard' which is a large marine reptile. Icthyosaurs thrived during much of the Mesozoic Era; based on fossil evidence, they first appeared around 250 million years ago! (At least 1 species surivved until bout 90 million years ago) Icthyosaurs are believed to have evolved from a group of unidentified leand reptiels that returned to the sea, in development similar to how the mammalian land-dwelling ancestors of modern-day dolphines and whales returned to the sea millions of years later. Scientists became aware of the existence of icthyosaurs during the early nineteenth century, when the first complete skeletons were found in England. Icthyosaurs species varied from one to over sixteen metres in length, they resemble both fish and dolphins. Their limbs were fully transformed into flippers.
