GREECE 1421-36 Chios GOLD COIN DUCAT PCGS 53 Venetian: JESUS CHRIST featured on back Holding the "Book of Gospels" and raising hand in Benediction, surrounded by Mandorla and Stars. The front features St. Mark representing banner to Kneeling Doge. The mint is attributed to CHIOS; however, it's possible this piece was minted out of the Eastern Mediterranean or Levantine mint. This rugged piece has very raised devices, almost "High Relief" in appearance, which reflects a nice Depth to the coin. The details and strike are very strong with almost no wear to the high points. The underlying fields have a nice rugged surface which reflects the antiquity of the piece nicely. In just in astonishing condition for being approx. 625 years old.
