FRANCE 1422 GOLD HENRY VI of England Salut d'or MS63 by NGC by the Saint - Lo mint, 2nd Emission from 6 Sept. 1423, FR 301 FINEST KNOWN NGC! VIRGIN MARY–ARCHANGEL GABRIEL; Duplessy-443, Elias-271 (lis mm). LUSTEROUS GOLD TONING AND COMPLETELY FREE FROM ANY FIELD ABRASIONS! FINEST KNOWN NGC, WITH ONLY 1 GRADED 64 BY PCGS; HOWEVER THIS EXAMPLE (SEE OTHER PICTURES FOR VIEWING) IS MISSING PART OF ARCHANGEL GABRIEL'S FACE)! WE BELIEVE THIS PIECE TO BE THE FINEST KNOWN! PERFECTLY CENTERED!!
This piece was minted in 1422 or 23 since gold pieces were minted in the beginning of King Henry VIth Reign, so the already small amounts available, which became critical by 1426. What makes this piece so special to me is it's showing "The Virgin Mary" behind the Shield of France facing the "Archangel Gabriel" (behind the quartered shield of France / England) and the Angel Gabriel Is handing her a scroll (inscribed AVE) beneath the "Light of God." Impressive condition at almost 600 years old!!! Truly a perfect combination of both Art & History!
