Crucifix Jesus Christ Circa 1450-1500 AD & 33" Original Chain
CRUCIFIX JESUS CHRIST circa 1450-1500 AD & 33” Silver Orig. CHAIN GERMANY PIRATE GOLD COINS
This approx. 500 YEAR old Medieval Gothic period Crucifix of Jesus Christ flanked by mourning Virgin Mary and St. John Apostle to his right, each on Pedestals joined by bars in the form of branches and both have an openwork Halo around their heads. The reverse is detailed by showing the branches of the Tree, the backs of the gowns of the Virgin Mary and as well St. John. The head of Christ is adorned by raised sun rays behind his head. A windswept peritoneum is tied at the waist. The athens and crossed feet are both nailed to the cross by nails. The piece is Southern Germany and is solid silver (tested 900 silver, but not stamped). The pendant is a cast “in the round,” with incised decoration. The obverse shows Christ , crucified on a cross, represented last the Tree of Life with the engraved octagonal terminal on the top, surmounted by a s suspension loop with a pierced hole fixed with flexible ring. An engraved terminal on the bottom with a skull above which representing mount Golgotha. The Chain is original to the piece / period and measures 33” long (with an old repair link with silver wire) with an Anchor link as a clasp. The Pendant measures approx. 63mm (includes the bale) Width is approx. 26mm and depth 8mm. The condition is amazing for Over 500 years old and it’s almost unheard of to find with original chain.
