SPAIN 1622 DATED 2 ESCUDOS NGC 45 GOLD COB DOUBLOON TREASURE COIN This VERY RARE “Assayer G” Gold Cob is partially dated (16) “22” on the cross side you can see the bottom of the 22’s in the legend, especially in the raw pic.,The partial DATE (16) “22” can be best seen in the first picture shown here (the Cross side), look at position 9 o’clock and you will clearly see the two 22’s! the YEAR OF THE ATOCHA 1622! This is the first time we’ve seen a gold escudo dated or partially dated the year of the Atocha. This of course does not necessarily mean it’s from the Atocha, we just don’t know and there were only a handful of gold escudos ever recovered from the Atocha, but it’s sure nice to see a Gold piece dated the year of the ATOCHA!!!
