Peru 4 Escudos 1697 "1715 Plate Fleet Shipwreck" NGC 63
Peru 4 Escudos 1697 "1715 Plate Fleet Shipwreck" NGC 63 Gold Doubloon Coin! Only 1 Known! Absolutely incredible strike on the Castles and Lions and FULL crown!!
UNIQUE! This Unique piece is in a league all it’s own! There are NOT ANY other 1600’s at ALL! Not only is this piece crushingly RARE, but it’s from the Reign of Charles (Carlos) II. Let’s start with the Obverse, FULL CROWN! Partial legends and a VERY CLEAR date, and actually, the original date was 666 (since the “9” is also Over Struck over the underlying “6”) as well, Making this piece a 169/6 7/6 or double Over Struck Date. It has a very nice Round planchet and was Strongly struck / hammered, as evidenced by the Grade as well. On to the Reverse. The most noticeable is the “C II” at 1 o’clock in the legend, the most clearly Struck Charles II I’ve ever seen or even heard of. Flowing next to it “D.G.” for Dei Gratia (by the Grace of God). An incredibly well struck CROSS with near perfect Centering! All 4 Lions / Castles are also Struck extremely well. This Gold Cob has EVERYTHING going for it and is destined for a very advanced collection!
