Louis Vuitton x Jeff Koons x Van Gogh
Been wanting to get one of these collaboration pieces with Jeff Koons since 2019! Jeff Koons is the most expensive living artist and to combine that with the high end art of legendary painters such as Van Gogh makes this something very special and limited (not to mention all under the Louis Vuitton brand). Koons says he doesn’t see any distinction between the bags and his art.
“It’s a menage a trois!” said Michael Burke, the chief executive of Vuitton! There are only 51 pieces TOTAL! This includes all versions from backpacks to purses (meaning all artist collaborations too including Ruben, Gaugin, Da Vinci etc. 51 TOTAL PIECES!) meaning there are probably only like 4 of these Van Gogh Dufflebags!! “Also scarves, key chains and small leather goods, including wallets and laptop sleeves – 51 pieces in all – done in collaboration with the French luxury house Louis Vuitton” – NY Times.
This is the first time Koons has done anything in fashion! His gazing ball series is what inspired him to do this style of a collaboration with Louis Vuitton. Larry Gagosian thinks the Vuitton collaboration makes perfect sense in the arc of his career. “Jeff is one of the few artists who can step into that water without screwing up his day job. It’s not the king of thing Mark Rothko would do, but arguably Andy Warhol paved the way for this, and Jeff has been inspired by the example of Warhol to a degree.” – NY Times
This piece was rated as a Condition 1 by the auction house, meaning it’s as new as it can get! (Just the Rabbit keychain alone goes for $500 on eBay).
