James Flood's Pottier & Stymus Chandeliers  'Linden Towers'

Picture
One of a kind & extremely rare pair of antique Pottier & Stymus Renaissance Revival Gas Chandeliers
Each chandelier weighs 245 lbs and measures 56" across x 93" in height.
Made of bronze and brass. Circa 1878

These Pottier & Stymus chandeliers originally hung in the dining room of 'Linden Towers' in Menlo Park CA, which is now Atherton, CA. The 45,000 square foot palatial home they originally hung in was known as the 'Wedding Cake House' built for James Clair Flood, also known as one of the "Bonanza Kings" of the great Comstock Load. James Flood was one of the wealthiest men in the world with a net worth of over $30M equivalent to $34 billion today. The interior and furnishings for this home were designed and built by Pottier & Stymus out of NYC including this one of a kind pair of chandeliers, the same company that designed and built furnishings for the Rockefeller family, the White House during the Grant administration and more. President Ulysses S. Grant even dined underneath these chandeliers

The chandeliers remain in great condition with the original aged bronzed polychrome finish that has worn naturally over the years. Both fixtures are missing their original center slide light along with pheasants and garlands that originally hung from the mouths of the Labrador retriever’s (you can see missing pieces in the original photographs). All parts missing will be replicated so the chandeliers will be complete. The chandeliers we're originally gas fixtures (burning gas), but have previously been wired but can be restored back to burn gas just as they did back in the 1870’s.

Fully restored/functioning would bring their value over 1M+ for the pair delivered and installed.

The chandeliers are currently hanging in our private collection in Grass Valley, CA.
